Andy Reid Announces The Signing Of Angry Birds

Instead of putting together a “Dream Team” this off-season, the Philadelphia Eagles opted to add Angry Birds to their lineup.

The team announced a partnership with Rovio Entertainment, the company responsible for the popular mobile game Angry Birds, that is often used for Apple-based products.

Head coach Andy Reid trumpeted the deal in an animated video and proclaimed five birds would be joining the nest.

The fifth bird, which did not visibly appear in the video, is proclaimed as the “secret weapon” and the “Mighty Philadelphia Eagle”.

Hopefully that means it will help out with Philly’s suspect red zone defense.

Garrett Reid Found Dead At Eagles Training Camp

Garrett Reid, son of Eagles head coach Andy Reid, was discovered dead in his room on Sunday morning while attending training camp in Pennsylvania.

Immediate attempts to revive the 29-year-old up0n finding his body were unsuccessful.

Earlier this morning, owner Jeffrey Lurie issued a statement regarding Garrett’s passing:

The Philadelphia Eagles are sad to announce that Garrett Reid, the oldest son of head coach Andy Reid, has died. Garrett Reid, 29, had been attending Eagles training camp with his father and was found in his room this morning. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo oversaw the team’s walk-through this morning, and will oversee the team until Reid’s return.

“This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family. Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children,” said Eagles Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie.

Eagles training camp is taking place at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Garrett was the oldest son of five children.

UPDATE -12:15PM: A cause of death had not yet been determined. Meanwhile, Andy Reid ordered practice to go on as scheduled later this afternoon. Castillo and Mornhinweg will oversee practice as Reid deals with this family tragedy.

2:00PM: Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that suicide and foul play have been ruled out based off of information from Lehigh University Chief of Police Edward Shupp.

Andy Reid & Cullen Jenkins Play The Feud

Don’t be fooled by Philadelphia’s 27-17 win over New England on Monday night.

It wasn’t exactly all sunshine and butterflies for the Eagles, who trailed early in the second quarter 11-0 to the Tom Brady-less/Rob Gronkowski-less/Vince Wilfork-less, etc., Patriots.

Following a New England offensive series, Philadelphia defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins sat on the bench when Andy Reid sauntered over to the same area.

Growing tired of his first-stringers’ lackluster play versus New England’s second-unit, Reid and Jenkins got into it. Obviously, they were not exchanging apple pie recipes.

To quote, Rick James…UNITY!

The Eagles Fire Juan Castillo; Hire Todd Bowles As New Defensive Coordinator

According to Comcast SportsNet’s Reuben Frank, the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo on Tuesday.

The firing comes on the heels of the Eagles blowing a 23-13 lead against the Lions on Sunday with just over three minutes left.

The 3-3 Eagles appointed Todd Bowles, the team’s secondary coach, as their new defensive coordinator.

Philly’s defense wildly underachieved with the inexperienced Castillo as its defensive coordinator since 2011.

Since that period, the Eagles are only 11-11.

This move is a clear sign that Andy Reid’s time as head coach is in grave danger.

Philadelphia is on a bye week and will play the undefeated Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.

Asante Samuel Can’t Understand Why Andy Reid Dissed Him

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel appeared apoplectic over Andy Reid’s decision to ignore the ex-Eagle during a post-game handshake.

Samuel’s Falcons squashed the Eagles 30-17 at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday in front of a disgruntled, comatose, Hurricane Sandy-ready crowd.

Following the game, Samuel rambled through an interview and wondered why his former coach dissed him moments after the game.

Samuel decided his easiest course of action was to pat “Big Red” on his “big belly” after Reid refused to acknowledge him.

The exuberant post-game interview by Samuel also included swipes at Eagles management. Samuel stated that the biggest difference between the 7-0 Falcons and Birds was coaching.

Of course, this was not the best of days for Reid.

Not only did he watch the Eagles lay down out of a bye week, fans chanted “Fire Andy” throughout the second half with the game hopelessly out of reach.

Meanwhile, Samuel was all smiles this week. Days prior to Sunday’s game, Samuel demanded Eagles fans cheer for him.

While they booed Samuel, the ex-Bird got the last laugh over Eagles fans and his frustrated former boss.

Report: Michael Vick To Get A “Rest” For The Rest Of The Season

Jason Cole of Yahoo filed a report on Monday stating that Andy Reid is considering giving quarterback Michael Vick a rest…for the remainder of the season.

Cole cited a pair of sources that stated there was a strong chance that Reid would in fact choose that route.

Scooped on top of the news that Vick suffered a “pretty significant” concussion against Dallas on Sunday, it appears time is up on Vick’s tenure in Philly.

A few things about the Vick “rest” angle to keep in mind:

  1. This is the best time to get an extended look at preseason champ Nick Foles. The “pretty significant” concussion gives them that chance.
  2. The offensive line stinks with Vick or with preseason MVP Nick Foles. Napoleon Dynamite could get clobbered nearly as much as Vick did.
  3. Andy Reid will be fired at season’s end. He has nothing to lose at this point.
  4. Michael Vick will be collecting checks from another team next season. So, there is no point in prolonging the agony. Sit him.

As explained during my emo tweets yesterday, I’m doubtful anything will become of the Foles era. He plays in slow-motion…and I don’t think that’s good.

Foles is just carrying out the same tired slant we’ve seen with Eagles football since the 90s.

The fans hate the starter and want the backup. Rinse and repeat.

Unfortunately, in this spot, Vick has to sit.

Sorry Marcus.

Andy Reid Takes A 42-7 Loss And Rides Off Into The Sunset

The Philadelphia Eagles sent out soon-to-be ex-head coach Andy Reid in vile fashion on Sunday – a 42-7 clubbing courtesy of the New York Giants.

Reportedly, Reid was told by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie on Friday that he would dismissed  at season’s end.

Despite putting on a brave face, nothing could hide Reid’s disappointment over a 4-12 season that further exposed the team’s inability to evaluate talent.

Considering his accomplishments as statistically the best coach in Eagles history, Reid deserved a better fate than having his team go belly up by losing 11 of its final 12 games.

Unfortunately, sports doesn’t operate that way.

Report: Andy Reid Is Likely To Become Next Head Coach Of The Arizona Cardinals

If you missed what happened regarding the NFL’s Black Monday, seven teams are looking for new head coaches.

However, by week’s end it appears the Arizona Cardinals will no longer have a vacancy. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are prepared to offer Reid the head coaching spot and in all likelihood, he will accept.

If Reid joins the Cardinals, it marks the second Eagles head coach in the last 25 years to get fired by Philly and then make the leap to Arizona.

The Eagles dropped Buddy Ryan following the 1990 season. Then, he accepted the Cardinals job in 1994.

Ryan lasted just two seasons, compiling a 12-20 mark.

Meanwhile, Reid is hoping for better success and will look for it in an area that is familiar to his family. Tammy, Reid’s wife, is from the Phoenix area.

Elsewhere, it appears two of Reid’s former allies will battle over Oregon head coach Chip Kelly. Both Cleveland (led by former Eagles czar Joe Banner) and Philadelphia (fronted by owner Jeffrey Lurie) are trying to nab the college product as their next head coach.

UPDATE (1/2 – 8:15AM): It looks like Reid to Arizona rumors caused a Twitter fight between Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com and Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports. Another report suggests Reid will lobby to “fix” Kevin Kolb.

Anyhow, it appears Reid will interview with the Cardinals at some point by week’s end. In other news, the Cardinals interviewed defensive coordinator Ray Horton to get their Rooney Rule obligation completed. Yes, the Cardinals may have crammed it in just to clear the deck for their lusting over Reid.

Andy Reid’s Chiefs Will Appear In Philadelphia In 2013

Perhaps the greatest part of Andy Reid’s jump to the Kansas City Chiefs as their new head coach is the realization of Big Red’s list of opponents in 2013.

It reads something like this:

Home: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants

Away: Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES, Washington Redskins

Anything on that list stand out?

Oh, that home game against the Browns doesn’t tickle your fancy? What about Reid getting booed into another area code when the Eagles host the Chiefs at Lincoln Financial Field?

Clearly, that game will not get Faith Hill’d on Sunday Night Football.

Instead, I’m guessing it’ll either land on Monday Night Football or Cee-Lo Green’s Thursday night spaceship.

Either way, expect lusty boos.

Good Parenting 101: Meet Halloween’s Winner…Baby Andy Reid

The Kansas City Chiefs have the best record in football…and some of the best fans in the NFL as evidence by one child’s Halloween costume.

This baby Andy Reid costume is now the champagne of Halloween outfits.

While it may not be better than Baby Mike Ditka, it’s easily the best NFL-related Halloween costume.

Chiefs Deactivate Pro Bowlers; Open Door For Chargers

Andy Reid is not likely to receive gifts from those in Miami, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore anytime soon.

Prior to Sunday’s game against the 8-7 San Diego Chargers, who need to win today to keep their playoff hopes alive, Reid opted to deactivate seven starters including Jamaal Charles, Alex Smith, Dwayne Bowe, Tamba Hali, Derrick Johnson, Branden Albert, and Dontari Poe.

Essentially, the Chiefs are sitting their key guys to rest them since they can’t improve their playoff seeding. Kansas City is locked into the AFC’s fifth seed and will play next weekend.

The big issue is how this impacts the race for the AFC’s sixth and final playoff spot.

By indirectly laying down, the Chiefs open the door for the Chargers to reach the postseason.

San Diego will reach the postseason with a win while the Steelers need a loss by the Chargers to get in.

Good luck with that, Pittsburgh.

The Boy George Effect: Andy Reid Fails To Manage Time Against Patriots…Again

0

NFL: AFC Divisional-Kansas City Chiefs at New England PatriotsThe most dubious accomplishment of Andy Reid’s coaching career took place in Super Bowl XXXIX when his Eagles fell to the New England Patriots, 24-21.

During that contest, Reid’s offense ran the first-ever five-minute, two-minute offense while down two scores. After finally scoring a touchdown, the Eagles were left with just an onsides kick attempt and a futile drive to grab a game-tying field goal with just seconds.

Yesterday against Bill Belichick’s Patriots, it happened all over again.

The Chiefs started the final offensive drive of the game trailing 27-13 with just 6:29 left. Kansas City used 16 plays to score.

Here’s where they went wrong. KC reached Patriots territory and ran their first play with 4:17 remaining. Then, with three minutes left, the Chiefs reach the NE 1. However, they took nearly 2:00 minutes of game time (!!!!!!) to score.

Here is the KC play-by-play from the three-minute mark:

  • 1-10-NE 20 (3:00) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 11-A.Smith pass short left to 12-A.Wilson to NE 1 for 19 yards (21-M.Butler).
  • 1-1-NE 1 (2:33) (No Huddle) 35-C.West right guard to NE 2 for -1 yards (93-J.Sheard; 52-D.Watson).
  • Two-Minute Warning
  • 2-2-NE 2 (2:00) (Shotgun) PENALTY on KC-72-E.Fisher, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at NE 2 – No Play.
  • 2-7-NE 7 (2:00) (Shotgun) 11-A.Smith pass short right to 81-J.Avant to NE 3 for 4 yards (26-L.Ryan).
  • 3-3-NE 3 (1:27) (Shotgun) 11-A.Smith pass incomplete short right to 81-J.Avant. PENALTY on NE-26-L.Ryan, Defensive Pass Interference, 2 yards, enforced at NE 3 – No Play.
  • 1-1-NE 1 (1:22) (Shotgun) 11-A.Smith pass incomplete short left to 17-C.Conley.
  • 2-1-NE 1 (1:18) (Shotgun) 35-C.West right end for 1 yard, TOUCHDOWN.

STRIKE 1 – They took one minute of game time to run two plays from the 1 to get to the two-minute warning. Unacceptable.

STRIKE 2 – Throwing short of the end zone on 2nd and goal to Avant and then not getting out of bounds.

STRIKE 3 – Following the Avant completion, 33 seconds elapsed before the Chiefs ran another play. They even huddled during the process.

It’s evident they did not want to use their three timeouts. However, had they shown some sense of urgency, things could have worked out for them.

Instead, they are toast.

Following the game, Reid offered little explanation other than that they didn’t get it done.

Reid is a good head coach. However, time management, which was always an issue with him while being the Eagles head coach, is not his strong suit.

The Andy Reid Face Shield Featured Plenty Of Fog

The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2020 season against the Houston Texans on Thursday night and Andy Reid gave us an early look at what Sundays with head coaches might look like as COVID-19 continues to cause problems around the country.

Reid showed off a face shield that extended from the brim of his hat all the way down below his chin. Yet, the problem with such a shield is evident. Reid heavily fogged it up throughout the game.

Due to rain, Reid’s shield became even more a problem by the fourth quarter.

Luckily, when you have Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback, not being able to see every play still isn’t a disadvantage.

Reid’s obscured vision didn’t help the Texans much. Kansas City opened up their Super Bowl championship defense with a 34-20 win over Houston.
